Closing A Chapter: Saying Goodbye to Northern Virginia

Saying Goodbye to Northern Virginia: My Journey of Moving Away

As a photographer who has called Northern Virginia home for the past four years, it's bittersweet for me to write this blog post. Not only is this the area where I started my photography business, but this is the area where I started my family.
The Historry
My husband and I moved to Arlington, VA in 2019, just two months before our first son was born. Our families and everyone we knew now lived 6 hours away, we built beautiful friendships and met countless amazing people during our time here. In late 2022 I decided I wanted to start a photography business, I knew very few people in the area and relied heavily on local Facebook groups to find individuals to model for me in order to grow my portfolio. I feel honored to have documented so many beautiful families and love stories in 2023. Although Northern Virginia has been my base for capturing beautiful moments for numerous couples and families, I feel excited to start a new journey in Clarksville, Tennessee
Saying Goodbye to Familiar Faces
One of the things that made Northern Virginia so special to me was the incredible community of clients, friends, and fellow photographers I had the pleasure of knowing. Saying goodbye to these familiar faces was undoubtedly one of the hardest parts of moving away. The relationships I built here will always hold a special place in my heart, and I am grateful for the memories we created together.
Embracing the Unknown
Moving away is not just about leaving behind what you know; it's also about embracing the unknown. For me, this meant stepping outside of my comfort zone and being open to new opportunities. Although I had built a successful photography business in Northern Virginia, I was excited about the chance to explore different landscapes, cultures, and communities. This change allowed me to broaden my artistic perspective and bring a fresh approach to my work.
The Thrill of New Adventures
As I embarked on my new journey, I couldn't help but feel a thrill of excitement. The prospect of discovering new locations to capture precious moments, meeting new clients, and immersing myself in different surroundings filled me with a sense of anticipation. Each new adventure serves as a reminder that growth often happens outside our comfort zones, and I am more than ready to embrace it.
Carrying Northern Virginia in my Heart
While physically leaving Northern Virginia behind was a significant step, this place will forever be a part of who I am as a photographer and as a person. The experiences, the landscapes, and the people have shaped me both personally and artistically. I will always cherish the memories of the magnificent fall colors in Shenandoah National Park, the laughter-filled family sessions at local parks, and the love-filled couples sessions in DC.
Continuing the Journey
As I settle into my new home and explore different regions, I am excited about the possibilities that lie ahead. My passion for capturing precious moments for couples and families remains steadfast. I believe that photography is not just about the physical location; it's about the connection between people and the love they share. Whether I'm in Northern Virginia or beyond, my commitment to capturing these beautiful moments remains unwavering.
A Grateful Farewell
To all my clients, friends, and fellow photographers in Northern Virginia, I can't express enough my gratitude for the support, trust, and friendship you have given me throughout the years. You have allowed me to be a part of your most cherished moments and have made my time in Northern Virginia truly remarkable. I may have physically moved away, but you will forever hold a special place in my heart.
Here's to new beginnings, exciting adventures, and the continued pursuit of capturing love and joy wherever life takes me. Farewell, Northern Virginia, and thank you for everything!

With love,
Gracie Nicole,
